Modern Mother's Day and the history behind its inception is credited to Anna Jarvis. She was inspired by her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, who had struggled greatly to develop as well as to ensure the health and safety of women and children throughout the 19th century.

When her mother passed away in 1905, it was her duty to carry the tribute of all mothers to her mother's memory. Finally, in the year 1915, Mother's Day was recognised as a holiday in the USA.
